Ranking of some Kaufman County schools drop
Following a state trend, the state ranking for some of Kaufman County’s schools dropped. The Kaufman, Crandall, and Kemp districts dropped from recognized to academically acceptable. Mabank remains the county’s only recognized district. Full list of school rankings following story.

Trinity Valley screening president candidates
Trinity Valley Community College found 36 people who want to be the school’s new president. Faculty and staff members will evaluate the applications and forward a recommendation to the board of trustees. A decision is expected in the fall.

New law allows special education students to participate in commencement ceremony
New legislation allows students receiving special education services who have completed four years of high school but have not yet completed all of their academic requirements to participate in graduation ceremonies with their friends and fellow classmates.

State-fish art contest calls for entries
Grade 4-6 winning entry - Anna McCaleb
Texas students in grades 4 through 12 are invited to enter the ninth annual Wildlife Forever State-Fish Art Contest. Contestants must create an illustration of an officially recognized state fish and write a one-page composition about its behavior, habitat and conservation.

Terrell, Forney scramble to plan after bond issues fail
School officials in Terrell and Forney are wondering where they will put students after bond issues failed in Tuesday’s election.
In Terrell, two bond proposals – one to build new schools and another to build a stadium – failed throughout the city.
In Forney, opposition to a new high school or freshman center also was widespread. At the same time, approval for propositions to build new schools received districtwide support.

Kaufman superintendent announces retirement
Dr. Bruce Wood
Kaufman school superintendent Bruce Wood said he decided during the summer he wanted to retire, but wanted to see school get off to a good start.

Dr. Wood told school board members Monday night that he is retiring.
