Forney TAKS scores remain high
Jul 11, 2008
The percentage of students passing the state TAKS remained high and improved in several areas. Overall, the district improved in 14 categories, was down slightly in nine and equal in four.
“We saw improvement in a number of subjects and in a number of grade levels this year and we’re hopeful that when the final results come in August, there will continue to be marked improvement across the board,” said Linda Jacobs, the assistant superintendent of accountability and learning. “The students in Forney ISD continue to do well even as the objectives and testing continues to become more challenging every year.”
In several areas the district had a high percentage of students who were commended for their high scores.
Two-thirds of sixth grade students and 60 percent of eighth grade students were commended in reading. Sixth grade students also excelled in math with 54 percent being commended. In science, 42 percent of fifth grade students were commended.
“We are very excited about the preliminary results we are seeing with the TAKS testing and the possibilities that some of our campuses may receive a recognized or even possibly an exemplary rating,” said Darrell Brown, Forney’s superintendent. “But we also have some areas where we know we can improve and we are focused on working with every student in every category, at every grade level and in every subject tested to ensure that they have all of the education and tools necessary to grasp the subject matter at hand.”
