Wynell Bourns dies

Wynell Bourns, found beaten unconscious in her home earlier this month, died about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Baylor Medical Center after slipping into a coma.

Late Monday afternoon, Terrell police upgraded the charge against Mona Lacretia Medlen, 49, to capital murder. Bond is now set at $1 million. She is being held in the Kaufman County jail.

Ms. Medlen, whose family says is mentally ill, had been held for aggravated assualt and illegally using Ms. Bourns car.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Goggans Funeral Home, 1911 N. Frances Street, in Terrell. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Terrell with burial at 2 p.m. a Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.

Police say Ms. Medlen was a neighbor and knew Ms. Bourns. Police believe Ms. Bourns was hit with a hammer and other household items.
