Terrell
Conradt lawsuit settled
Jun 25, 2008
Patricia Conradt, sister of former Kaufman County district attorney Louis Conradt, has “amicably resolved” a lawsuit concerning her brother’s death.
NBC Universal will pay $105 million to resolve the claim, The Los Angeles Times first reported. That was the amount asked for by Ms. Conradt, but the actual terms were not disclosed.
Mr. Conradt, 56, shot himself in November 2006 as police working with a private group dedicated to finding Internet stalkers and NBC’s To Catch a Predator, entered his house.
The network confirmed the settlement. NBC had argued in court that the case was without merit, but a district judge ruled that it could go forward.
Mr. Conradt, then an assistant district attorney in Rockwall County, had computer contact with someone he thought was a teen-aged boy. The boy, actually a man working with the group Perverted Justice, invited him to a house where police and NBC’s crew were waiting.
When Mr. Conradt failed to show up, Terrell police were called and attempted to enter Mr. Conradt’s house, while a camera crew waited outside. Mr. Conradt shot himself after police entered the house.
Ms. Conradt charged that the network was more interested in profit than in catching pedophiles.
