Jun 24, 2008

Mabank Western Week, a highlight of the year, continues through Saturday.

Tonight features the annual bed race that have normally sane adults pushing beds through an obstacle course.
Other events include wagon races for children and other games.

The bed race begins at 8 p.m. at the Mabank Pavilion across from the rodeo arena on Business Highway 175. Other games begin at 5 p.m.

The annual event adds a junior rodeo this year that includes barrel racing, pole bending and mutton busting (sheep riding).

“We’re trying to get things to get the kids into it,” said Johnny Adams, a firefighter.

The traditional Friday and Saturday night rodeo is at the Andrew Gibbs Rodeo Arena on Business 175 and includes calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding and other events.

The parade begins at 4 p.m. Saturday with prizes for outstanding floats and the regular dance at the pavilion
