Woman arrested in Terrell beating

Terrell police arrested Mona Lacretia Medlen, 49, early Friday morning in connection with the aggravated assault of Wynell Bourns. Police believe a hammer and other household items were used to beat the 93-year-old woman.

Medlin lives near the victim and knew her, police said.

Ms. Bourns was found beaten nearly unconscious in her home in the 100 block of Westway Tuesday evening. Her car was found in Terrell the next day. She is in serious condition at Parkland hospital in Dallas.

Based on citizen tips and witness information, police obtained a search and arrest warrant and went to Ms. Medlin’s home, near that of Ms. Bourns, late Thursday. She was arrested without incident early Friday.

Ms. Medlen is being held on $275,000 bond -- $250,000 on an aggravated robbery charge and $25,000 for the stolen car – at the Kaufman county jail.
