Terrell
For the family

Jun 13, 2008

Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell was decorated for Spc. J.D. Emard who was killed June 4 in Iraq.
The campers from Gymkids stood at the curb, flags outstretched, as the funeral procession for Army Spc. J.D. Emard passed.

“The most important thing was the family in that car,” she told them after cars passed by Friday. “They were taking pictures of you. That’s what they will remember, that you were out here honoring” their son.

In what has become a Terrell tradition, business owners put out flags and residents lined the streets waving smaller flags in honor of a local fallen soldier.

Spc. Emard, 20, of Poetry, was killed June 4 near Kirkuk, Iraq. Others showed up with their flags on Thursday as his remains were brought into town.

Friday’s procession to Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall for the funeral was lead by Terrell police and fire trucks and escorted by motorcycle Patriot Guards.

Ms. Jones said she brought her kids out because she thought is was important for them to learn to be part of a community.

While they waited for the procession, she gave them an impromptu lesson on the flag and after told them “boys and girls I have never been so proud of you.”
