Forney police arrest three in Whataburger robbery after high-speed chase
May 28, 2008
Two Forney police officers chased suspects in a Whatburger armed robbery down Highway 80 into a Dallas residential neighborhood before capturing the men early Wednesday.
Police still are looking for a fourth suspect and would not release the names of those arrested.
A Whataburger employee called police about 4:30 a.m. saying the business had been robbed at gun point. She was able to provide a suspect description and a description of the vehicle they left in.
Police officers heading to the restaurant spotted the SUV on the Highway 80 service road and one officer attempted a traffic stop. But the suspects' green SUV speeded down 80 headed for Dallas, at times nearing 100 mph.
Dallas County Sheriff’s deputies threw out spike strips near Gus Thomason to stop the car, but the SUV avoided the strips. The SUV exited at Buckner and headed into the Buckner Terrace neighborhood.
The three suspects left the car in the 500 block of Everglade and ran.
One Forney police officer chased two of the suspects on foot, eventually stopping one with a Taser. He caught the second one before he could climb a fence. Another officer arresed the third suspect further down the street.
The Forney officers were assisted by Dallas police.
The three suspects were returned to Forney where they were being held.
