County to help with spring cleaning

May 14, 2008

Time to clean out the garage, turn out the closets and pick up the yard.

Nine sites around the county will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday to collect household refuse from Kaufman County residents, free.

Normally, residents must buy a voucher at a subcourthouse and then haul trash to a city/county convenience station.

Officials say the clean up helps curb illegal dumping along county roads and city streets.

Kaufman will hold a city clean-up Saturday, May 17, in conjunction with the area-wide effort. The Kaufman event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Chamber members and other volunteers will be out picking up roads and business owners are asked to clean their property.

Volunteers will meet by the gazebo next to City Hall on Washington at 8 a.m. and the pickup will end at noon. A dump truck will be available to haul trash to the Kaufman Convenience Station. For more information, call the chamber at 972-932-3118.

For county drop-off points the rules are:

  • Proof of Kaufman County residency required, such as a drivers license or water bill.

  • No cattle trailers

  • No closed-top trailers

  • Appliances, batteries, aluminum, steel cans, and metals including wire and wire fencing will be accepted at Terrell Iron & Metal, 1031 S. Delphine, Terrell.
