Texas Realtors unveil agenda for 80th legislative session
Stacey Lawson - Texas Association of Realtors
Jan 28, 2007

The Texas Association of Realtors, representing more than 90,000 members throughout the state, recently announced its agenda for the 2007 legislative session.

Topics of interest to the Realtor group include appraisal reform, additional school property-tax relief, mortgage finance and cities’ use of eminent domain. To continue driving down the costs of homeownership, Texas Realtors are placing appraisal reform at the top of their agenda.

Specifically, the Texas Association of Realtors will advocate for:

  • Helping more Texans qualify to buy their own home by lowering the state’s over-reliance on school property taxes even further.
  • Increasing the qualifications for appraisal review board members and sending appraisal notices earlier to allow more time for appeals.
  • Allowing for more public representation on central appraisal district (CAD) boards of directors.
  • Staggering appraisal notices regarding proposed valuations of residential and business properties, thus giving Texas homeowners the due diligence they deserve.
