Terrell hospital up and running
Renaissance Hospital of Terrell is again open for patients. Only the emergency room had been operating at the hospital, which filed for bankruptcy in August. An investor is paying the bills and hopes to buy the hospital’s assets.

A night of squeakers
Friday night brought some narrow wins and narrow losses to several Kaufman County high schools.
Forney made it four in a row with a strong win over Garland Sachse, 52 to 42.
Terrell fell to Bishop Lynch, 0 to 23.
Kaufman got its first win of the season with a 39 to 15 win over Hillsboro.
Mabank narrowly fell to Van, 16 to 17.
Crandall took Fort Worth Castleberry, 16 to 14.
Kemp topped Emory Rains, 24-20.
Scurry-Rosser defeated Rio Vista, 17-14.

Livestock need rescue, too
Earl Nottingham/TEXAS PARK AND WILDLIFE DEPT.
About 20,000 cows and horses along the coast are wandering in flood-soaked fields in immediate need of food and fresh water.
The Texas AgriLife Extension Service needs donations to help ranchers in Chambers and Jefferson counties.

FBI releases crime report
The FBI released it's yearly crime report Monday. The Kaufman County shows slightly more crime than surrounding counties, but the difference in population accounts for some variation. For instance, Van Zandy County has about half the population of Kaufman County, and Ellis County has a third more.

Kaufman County schools split football results
Bad weather held off until Friday night football was over.
Forney and Terrell both won their games; Kaufman and Crandall lost. The score from the Kemp-Mabank was not available late Friday.
Forney made it three in a row Friday night, defeating Seagoville, 42-27.
Terrell returned to the win column with a win over Seagoville, 31-28.
Kaufman made it three losses in a row, falling to Canton, 36-43.
Crandall ended a two-game winning streak, losing to Carrollton Ranchview, 52-3.

Kaufman County readies for damaging storm
The Kaufman County emergency preparedness office is ready for damaging wind and rain, expected to begin as early as Friday night. Power outages are expected.
Evacuees from the Beaumont-Port Arthur area are being housed at several churches.

Overweight truck causes Kaufman County bridge collapse
The truck that broke through a Kaufman County bridge Wednesday afternoon was overweight. It also traveled over at least one other bridge that had a weight limit.

State group rallies for education reform
Former Lt. Gov. Bill Ratliff
Texas schools are doing better than many think but could be doing even better, former Lt. Gov. Bill Ratliff told more than 200 mostly educators at a rally Wednesday night. He is part of Raise Your Hand Texas, an education reform organization.

Three injured in Kaufman County bridge collapse
Three people were injured when a two-lane bridge collapsed on 1836 at Cedar Creek. As a trailer carrying heavy road building equipment crossed the bridge the concrete broke sending the car more than 20 feet into the creek.
