For real estate industry, 2008 may have familiar ring
Calendars may show 2008, but researchers with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University say many of the issues facing the real estate industry this year will have a familiar ring to them.
“Stories that made headlines in 2007 will continue playing out over the next year,” said Dr. Mark Dotzour, the Center’s chief economist.

Despite Mortgage Woes, Subprimes Serve Purpose
High-risk home mortgages are facing national scrutiny thanks to the recent rise in subprime foreclosures, but a noted research economist with the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University is coming to their defense. “There is no reason to overreact and kill something that has served, and could continue to serve, a useful purpose,” said Dr. James Gaines, research economist with the Center.

Energy Efficiency Pays Off . . . For Now
Homeowners distressed over high energy bills and even higher taxes can receive tax credits for certain energy efficiency property and improvement expenditures. But they had better act quickly.
One tax credit, the nonbusiness energy property credit, expires at the end of this year, and the other, the residential energy-efficient property credit, expires at the end of 2008.
