Rep. Betty Brown and Pct. 4 Commissioner Jim Deller
State Rep. Betty Brown presented a flag that had flown over the state capitol to Prec. 4 Commissioner Jim Deller Thursday at the newly opened ECO Station. Rep. Brown said she is proud because it provides citizens “in the southern half of Kaufman County a wonderful place to recycle". The station on Highway 175 at Plainview Road in Kemp is open 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The site has recycling bins for glass jars, metal cans (both aluminum and steel), plastic bottles #1 and milk jugs #2 (you can find these numbers at the bottom of most plastic containers), paper, newspaper, magazines and cardboard, used oil and oil filters and car batteries at no charge.
This facility also provides a place to dispose of trash items at a small fee. The household hazardous waste building on the site allows citizens to dispose of household chemicals at a very nominal fee of $10 for up to 25 pounds of material. Household trash and bulky items also may be dumped for a fee.
Citizens' may purchase disposal coupons for both trash and household hazardous waste at the Kaufman County Sub courthouse in Kemp or they may use their credit card at the ECO Station. No cash or checks will be accepted.
