Kaufman man indicted in teen’s shooting
W.C. Frosch was indicted Wednesday in the shooting of a 15-year-old Kaufman teen, who said he and a friend were just cutting across the yard when Mr. Frosch shot without warning through a window. Mr. Frosch said he believed they meant to rob him and was protecting his home. The case will likely center on the “castle law” which allows residents to protect their property with deadly force.

Unusual jewelry helps others
The Greater Kaufman Rotary Club is sponsoring a special luncheon and jewelry show at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, in Kaufman. The unique jewelry comes from women in Chicuque, Mozambique who makes the pieces to raise money for their families.

One dead after complicated shooting, traffic accident
A pickup, apparently taking a teen who had been shot by a homeowner to the hospital, was involved in head-collision that left the driver dead and the two occupants injured.

A Kaufman man was convicted of murder Friday in the killing of his girlfriend’s mother and of sexually assaulting her daughter. A sentencing hearing is set for Feb. 1.

Kaufman student qualifies for Junior Olympics
Austin Jacobs
Austin Jacobs, a fifth grader at Lucille Nash Intermediate School advanced to the United States Track and Field Junior Olympic National Cross County Championships with his second place finish in a regional qualifier.

Austin will compete in the 3K, under 10 division, Dec. 7 at the national meet in Lawrence, Kan.

In the regional competition earlier this month, Austin finished second with a 12:54 time.

The fifth grader also will compete in the AAU National Cross Country meet in Virginia Beach, Va. on Dec. 1.

Kaufman man critically injured in accident
A Kaufman man on a motorcycle was critically injured Tuesday night when he was struck by a car at the Wal-Mart entrance at State Highway 205 in Terrell.

A 1999 Chrysler sedan driven by Katy Cooper, 17, of Terrell struck Byron Brown, 55, of Kaufman on a 2007 Harley Davidson at the traffic light outside the Wal-Mart parking lot about 9:20 p.m.

Mr. Brown was revived by paramedics at the scene and taken to Renaissance Hospital in Terrell and was later taken to Parkland Hospital by helicopter. He is in critical condition.

Ms. Cooper was not injured.

Police are investigating.

Kaufman takes on Canton for bi-district championship
The Kaufman Lions fell to the Canton Eagles Friday night in bi-district playoffs, 35 to 21.
The Lions went into the game undefeated in district play.
Wills Point also lost its playoff game. Prosper topped the Tigers 23 to 7.
They were the only Kaufman County teams advancing to the playoffs.

Homecoming!
Kaufman will start a new tradition this year with a homecoming bonfire before the big game.

The community pep rally begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the stadium and will feature live music and a chance take pictures with your favorite Lions. The rally will move to the field just east of the stadium for the bonfire.

Decorate your ride for chance to win a gift card. Judges will be prowling the parking lot during the day.

And buy a raffle ticket to win a helmet signed by the varsity lions. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets will be sold through the second quarter.

The game against Ferris begins at 7:30 p.m.

Hall of Fame induction leads homecoming
Five have been selected for the Kaufman Sport’s Hall of Fame. The induction luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19 in the high school gym. The homecoming game follows at 7:30 p.m.
