Kaufman County officially topped out at 104 degrees Sunday at the reporting station at Terrell airport. But some areas informally went above that reaching as high as 106.
It’s supposed to be about the same Monday and most of the week with temperatures ranging from 100 to 105 across North Texas.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for North Texas, including Kaufman County, through 7 p. m. Monday. That means that those with concerns, particularly the elderly, should take precautions to protect against heat exhaustion.
Mostly importantly never leave anyone or a pet inside a parked car. Temperatures can rise to a life-threatening 140 degrees or more within a few minutes.
A 14-month-old boy from Denton County died Sunday after being left in the an SUV for more than an hour.
For those who play or work outside -- take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water and wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
And watch out for those around you. If you see someone who appears to be in distress – sweating heavily, bright-red face, stumbling or disoriented – insist the person stop and go inside, no matter how much they protest.
Recent research has shown that those suffering from heat illness often don’t realize they are ill and insist on continuing activities.
