It has become a Terrell tradition for flag-waving members of the community to line the route of the funeral procession for fallen soldiers.
Residents are being asked to turn out Thursday and Friday to honor Spc. Jonathan David Arthur “J.D.” Emard.
Spc. Emard was killed June 4 near Kirkuk, Iraq.
The first procession will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, when Spc. Emard’s remains will be brought from Greenville to the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. Residents are asked to stand with their flags between Virginia and Rockwall streets.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 301 W. Nash.
Residents are asked to turn out again at 10 a.m. Friday between Pacific Street and Highway 205 as the procession makes it way to Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall. Services there are scheduled for 11 a.m.
Flags are available at the Terrell Chamber of Commerce or the Terrell Marketing Center, both in downtown Terrell on Highway 80.
Spc. Emard, 20, was born in Dallas and attended Boles High School where he play football. He joined the Army when he was 17. His family said he loved drawing, soccer, football and had a very outgoing personality.
He is survived by his loving parents, David and Debbie Emard of Terrell; sister, Jennifer Marler and husband Justin of Terrell; niece, Cina; grandmother, Jean Emard of Garland; uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
