Kaufman County was under a flash flood warning Tuesday morning after storms moved through the area during the night and continued into the morning.
Officially, the Terrell airport recorded only .4 of an inch of rain during the overnight storms and Monday’s late afternoon rainfall. The National Weather Service said rain from the morning storms was heaviest between Terrell and Heath, in Rockwall County, with two to three inches and another 1 to 2 inches possible.
Other rain gauges around the county registered two or more inches overnight.
That much rain so quickly can flood normally dry creek beds and culverts. Take special care in low lying areas and don’t drive into a water-covered roadway.
The storms were moving out of the county by 10 a.m. and clear weather was expected by Tuesday afternoon. The high should be near 90.
In addition to the rain, the storms brought much cooler weather. The temperature dropped from 91 degrees to 68 degrees Monday afternoon between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.. It dropped another three degrees to 65 in the next hour and that was the overnight low.
