Anybody who has ever seriously tried to raise a tomato or grow stunning roses knows it takes more than digging a hole in the ground and planting.
There is the soil type to consider, sunlight, water, mulch, pests, diseases – the list goes on.
It may sound daunting but a little training through Texas AgriLife Extension Service can quickly turn you into a semi-pro.
Kaufman County Master Gardeners will hold an information session from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 31 at the AgriLife Extension Service office at 2471 N. Hwy. 34.
A Master Gardener is a gardening enthusiast of any age, who has been formally trained in horticulture by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service and has completed a period of volunteer service. Master Gardeners do not know all the answers, but do have way to find the answers.
The Kaufman County Master Gardener Association is a non-profit, educational, public service organization founded in 2001 to support Texas Cooperative Extension. The 40 members share a love of gardening and a desire to serve the community. They put in 4,719 volunteer hours in support of Texas AgriLife Extension Service programs and educational projects in 2007 alone.
