It’s time to register kindergarteners for school next fall and that takes a birth certificate.
Even if your child was not born in Kaufman County, birth certificates are available through the county clerk’s office or on online.
You don’t have to pay a middle-man a big fee, County Clerk Laura Hughes stresses. She said she’s seen agencies charging as much as $100 for what the county clerk’s office will provide for $23.
To get a birth certificate in person go to the Kaufman County Courthouse, 100 W. Mulberry, in Kaufman. You’ll need a valid state driver liscense and the fee. You may also download a Birth Request Form from the Clerk’s Web site at www.kaufmancountyclerk.com/forms.htm and mail it with a copy of your driver license and a check for $23.
They are almost immediately available, Ms. Hughes said.
Another option is to log onto the State’s Web site at www.dshs.state.tx.us and follow instructions.
