Love Letters at Terrell’s Iris Theatre this weekend

The Vagabond Players and The Iris Theatre present three performances of Love Letters.

Love Letters is a simple story of letters exchanged over a lifetime between Andrew Makepeace Ladd III (played by Ron Harris) and Melissa Gardner (Gayle Harris), both born to wealth and position. Their lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards.

Andy is dutiful, responsible, endearingly stuffy, but caring and contemplative. Melissa is the free spirit, the rebel, the outspoken wild girl whose extroverted behavior doesn't quite hide her vulnerability.

Even though they see each other rarely, their correspondence links them to each other no matter how much distance may separate them or how much time passes. They update each other on their lives through the letters, but also share their most intimate thoughts. The story of their bittersweet relationship gradually unfolds from what is written -- and what is left unsaid -- in their letters.

In Time magazine, William A. Henry III called the play "one of the four or five best American plays of the '80s."

Performances are Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8:00 p.m. and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 on the Iris Theatre stage inside Books and Crannies, 209 W. Moore Ave. in downtown Terrell.

The Iris has limited seating, so reservations are recommended - call 972/563-5481. Admission is $10.00.
