The Combine fire department has received a $80,000 grant from Federal Emergency Management Agency to buy equipment.
The money will be used to purchase a new JAWS of life tool that is used to help get accident victims from twisted cars and a thermal imaging device to find victims and firefighters in smoky buildings. The firefighters also will get new airpacks, new boots and other personal equipment items.
Altogether, $34,000 will be used to purchase equipment and $46,800 will be used to purchase personal gear.
The department also asked for a new fire engine but did not receive the grant.
Chief R. Nessner wrote both grant applications.
