Kemp wants to build its athletic programs and has hired Greg Anderson as the new athletic director, Superintendent Peter Running said.

“We didn’t focus on the win-loss aspect. We want to build programs right now,” Dr. Running said.

Coach Anderson currently is with the Sabine school district near Port Arthur, where he is the head coach and athletic director. Sabine’s football record was 0-10, but numerous reports cited the hard district the school plays in.

Kemp was 1-9 last season.

“We hired Coach Anderson to build a program. We believe when we get the girls and body programs built, heading in the right direction, the wins will come,” Dr. Running said.

Negotiations are underway, but Coach Anderson’s salary will be between $65,000 - $67,000.

Athletic director Walt Mangan resigned.
