| Proposed Loop 9 route |
Loop 9, an outer highway belt first proposed in 1964, is growing closer to reality. Final work on the Draft Environmental Impact Study hopefully will be completed by December.
The loop will swoop along southern Dallas County into Kaufman County brushing Combine as it turns north towards the eastern edge of Mesquite.
A public hearing on the proposed route is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Combine fire station, 123 Davis Road.
The road originally was planned as a six-lane divided “parkway.” Now it includes several toll lanes, major interchanges at Interstates 45 and 20 and on-off ramps at other intersections. A 430-foot right-of-way is planned.
The speed limit on some sections of the road could be 85 mph.
The projected cost is $515 million and while there is no timetable for construction, possible inclusion in the Trans-Texas Corridor could speed up the start date.
The loop is expected to open up areas in southern Dallas County to development.
